Akoni has introduced a new level of refinement to its eyewear offerings with the release of the Crafted Cosmo a frame that reimagines Akoni’s classic Wellington through the unique texture, warmth, and depth of buffalo horn.

A Unique Look With Every Frame

Unlike conventional materials, buffalo horn is naturally varied in tone, pattern, and grain. No two frames are alike—each one carries a distinct signature formed by nature itself. This makes every pair not just a luxury accessory but a personal artifact. Add to this Akoni’s made-to-order customization program, and the result is a frame that’s as individual as the wearer.

Buyers can select horn color, lens tint, frame fit, rivet trim, rivet screw finishes and add a custom engraving allowing for a new level of personalization for Akoni. The experience is closer to commissioning a work of art than purchasing off-the-shelf eyewear.

The Crafted Cosmo

The Crafted Cosmo, is a new take on Akoni’s Wellington frame, now sculpted from horn. The shape remains strong and structured, yet the material softens its lines with warmth and depth. An organic surface replaces acetate sheen, giving the frame a sculptural, tactile quality.

It’s a frame made for those who notice detail—the subtle variation in horn texture, the balance of hand-finished surfaces, and the thoughtful weight in hand and on face. The Crafted Cosmo speaks softly but leaves a lasting impression.

Craftsmanship Rooted in Tradition

Each Crafted Cosmo frame undergoes over 30 hours of hand-carving, sculpting, and polishing in Akoni’s workshop. The process preserves centuries-old horn-working techniques, marrying them with contemporary design sensibilities and ergonomic precision. The result is a frame that feels modern but speaks to a long lineage of artisanal mastery.

About Akoni Eyewear

Akoni blends inspiration from history’s great visionaries with an unwavering devotion to Japanese craftsmanship. Rooted in the concept of shokunin—the Japanese artisan’s relentless pursuit of perfection—every detail is considered with precision. Design philosophy is guided by the golden ratio and minimalist aesthetics, favoring subtlety over overt branding, and letting form and detail speak for themselves. Each Akoni frame is meticulously crafted in collaboration with revered Japanese artisans, drawing from traditional techniques such as Japanese joinery, Kiriko glass cutting, and precision knife-making.
