ProjectSpex exists to change the way people think about eyewear.

For too long, glasses have been treated as nothing more than a medical device or a mass-produced commodity. But independent eyewear offers something more. It can tell a story. It can reflect identity. And in many cases, it’s made in small batches or limited editions, it is worth collecting.

ProjectSpex was created by Keith Benjamin and Will Benjamin in partnership with Laramy-K Optical,  a lab dedicated to supporting independent opticians and optometrists for over 35 years. The project is a natural extension of that mission: to spotlight the makers, shops, and frames that represent the future of independent optical.

Through brand deep-dives, retailer directories, limited-edition features, and collector-friendly content, ProjectSpex exists to build a culture around independent eyewear and help people discover glasses worth caring about.

This isn’t just about finding a new frame. It’s about seeing eyewear for what it really is—personal, expressive, and worth collecting.

The goal of Project Spex is to build a culture around incredible and collectible independent eyewear.

Will Benjamin is an advocate for independent eyewear and one of the driving forces behind Project Spex. With a passion for unique, collectible, and limited-edition eyewear, Will aims to inspire people to build their own collections through Project Spex, while supporting the success of independent opticals.
