Who is Jacques Marie Mage?

Jacques Marie Mage (JMM) is an eyewear brand built around limited-edition frames, handmade craftsmanship, and strong narrative. Since launching in 2014, the brand has built a reputation for making luxury eyewear that’s worth talking about.

Jacques Marie Mage was founded by Jérôme Jacques Marie Mage in Los Angeles, but the brand never felt rooted in a narrow idea of California style. From the start, it leaned toward strong silhouettes, deep references, and a deliberate sense of identity. Early releases established the look of the brand through thick acetate, sculpted lines, and limited production. From there, JMM expanded through collaborations and special collections that turned the brand into something larger than a luxury label with scarce inventory.

Over time, that approach has given the brand a distinct shape. Collections draw from the American West, film, music, literature, motorsport, or art history. Some are grounded in specific figures. Others are built around places or atmospheres. JMM likes to build a frame inside a story, then carry that story through the entire release.

What makes Jacques Marie Mage different?

Jacques Marie Mage stands out by creating every frame with a distinct story to tell. Yellowstone VI is a good example. The release draws directly from Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding region. Each frame was designed to reflect the park and its inhabitants, specifically the wolves that roam Yellowstone. The eyewear in this collection feature distinct howling wolf medallions on each temple tip and the packaging was custom made for the release.

Tableaux De Chasse moves in a completely different direction, pulling from the strange, polished world around counterfeit art dealer Fernand Legros and forger Elmyr de Hory. With a focus on telling their story and presenting it through a batch of sleek silhouettes.

That range says a lot about the brand. JMM is not locked into one visual theme or environment. What ties the work together is the way each release is given its own identity and story that you want to tell others about.

How are Jacques Marie Mage glasses made?

Each Jacques Marie Mage frame is handmade in Japan, going through a 300-step process involving nearly 100 artisans over the course of 18 months. JMM’s acetate frames use plant-based cellulose acetate, which are cut to shape and then tumbled in barrels of custom bamboo wood chips for a smooth finish. Titanium frames are treated with the same level of care, with a single pair taking nearly five months to complete.

Jacques Marie Mage Collaborations

JMM is known for its creative partnerships that blend fashion, art, and culture. The brand has collaborated with various artists and designers to produce unique, limited-edition pieces.  Including The Velvet Underground, Valentino Rossi, Johnny Cash and Stanley Kubrick to name a few.

Why is story so central to Jacques Marie Mage?

Because story is not decoration at JMM. It is built into the release itself. The brand’s collaborations and special collections are often anchored to a person, a place, a body of work, or a distinct historical mood. Hopper Goods drew from Dennis Hopper and Easy Rider. Gonzo Foundation reworked the shooter-style glasses associated with Hunter S. Thompson. Last Frontier pulled from Western craft traditions. The frames are designed inside of those worlds in direct collaboration with those who live in them every day, not simply named after them.

How do Packaging and Accessories fit The Story?

They are part of the frame. JMM regularly builds packaging and accessories to match the story and release, rather than using a standard presentation for everything. Often JMM will create custom monograph display boxes, handmade leather cases and artist designed cleaning cloths just for a single release. Authenticity cards come standard with handwritten edition numbers and artisan signatures. On a select few musical collaborations, Jacques Marie Mage has even included limited edition issues of vinyl records with each frame.

What does Jacques Marie Mage really sell?

Jacques Marie Mage sells story-driven, collectable eyewear, designed to leave an impression, through detail and deeper meaning. The frames are limited, carefully made, and often unlike anything else on the market, but the real appeal runs deeper than scarcity alone. Every release arrives with its own setting, mood, and story, carried through the frame, the packaging, and the details around it. That is what makes Jacques Marie Mage easy to recognize and hard to forget.
