Jacques Marie Mage has released a new limited-edition sunglass collection to honor Patti Smith and the 50th anniversary of her debut album, Horses. The release is centered around the Dealan, one of JMM’s iconic frame silhouettes, reimagined and re-detailed in tribute to Smith’s life, work, and unmistakable style. Limited to just 250 pieces per colorway, each frame in the Patti Smith for JMM collection is a wearable ode to poetry, rebellion, and raw artistic expression.
A Reimagined Dealan, Rich with Story
Originally designed with a distinct ’60s attitude and worn by cultural provocateurs like Bob Dylan, the Dealan has always carried a quiet defiance. In this release, the shape remains bold and angular, but it’s the added detail that transforms it into a new commemorative piece.
Every Patti Smith for JMM frame is handcrafted from plant-based acetate and paired with distinctive metalwork and symbolic engravings. Including sterling silver arrowhead front pins inlaid with Bloodstone, exposed custom wirecores, hairline-engraved with lyrics from Smith’s song “Land.” and foil-stamped inner temples with Patti Smith’s signature in silver.
Colorways Crafted from Patti Smith’s Songs
The collection includes three unique color stories, each inspired by Smith’s music, and artistic connection to French poet Arthur Rimbaud—a lifelong inspiration for her work:
Mauvais Sang:
A warm gray acetate paired with ruby lenses and 18k gold detailing. Named after Smith’s song and Rimbaud’s poem “Bad Blood,” this colorway is restless, poetic, and emotionally charged. Limited to 250 pieces.
Cabaret Vert:
A polished black frame with light bottle green lenses and silver hardware. Drawing its name from Rimbaud’s 1870 poem “Le Cabaret Vert,” this edition feels introspective, sharp, and grounded. Limited to 250 pieces.
Rayon Violet:
A polished Havana acetate paired with nimbus-tinted lenses. Inspired by a literary allusion penned by Smith herself, this version feels like a meditation on memory, warmth, and subtle drama. Limited to 250 pieces.
Packaging with Presence
Each frame from the Patti Smith Collection arrives in a Collector’s Box Set. The box features a black linen exterior with foil-stamped details, opening to reveal an inner case adorned with an iconic portrait of Smith from her Horses album cover. Inside rests a vintage black leather envelope case, lined in Bordeaux Empire microsuede.
Accompanying the frame is an oversized cleaning cloth printed with original photography by Patti Smith herself, along with an exclusive chapbook containing her handwritten lyrics and personal photographs. Completing the experience, each collector also receives a special edition t-shirt designed to coincide with the 50th anniversary tour of Horses.
