Jacques Marie Mage’s latest Édition Spéciale with Rocky Mountain Featherbed centers on two new limited frames: Teewinot and Glacier, each limited to less than 250 pairs. The collection draws from 1970s mountaineering, but it does not leave that idea in the background. It shows up in the shapes, the materials, and the way the release is presented from start to finish.
Rocky Mountain Featherbed began in Jackson Hole in the late 1960s and built its reputation on cold-weather garments with a strong visual identity and a practical point of view. After disappearing for a time, it was revived by collector Kinji Teramoto.
The collection also includes outerwear, including a wind shirt and a puffer vest, but the eyewear carries the release on its own. Teewinot and Glacier feel like two different ways into the same idea. One leans on color and bold acetate. The other pulls more directly from vintage alpine eyewear and the hardware that came with it.
Teewinot: Navigators Named for a Summit in Teton Ridge
Teewinot is a sculptural navigator, with a thick top bar, and contrasting accents that give the frame a lot of presence from the front. It is handcrafted from plant-based acetate and finished with JMM details that collectors already know well.
Teewinot is offered in five colorways, Black, Tan, Brick, Rover, and Suntan, and the palette feels tied to the collection from the start. Even the names and lens pairings push it in that direction. Some versions feel earthy and sun-faded, while others bring in brighter contrast and a little more lift.
Glacier: Inspired by Mountaineering History
Glacier is built around titanium, leather, eye shields, and exposed hardware. JMM describes it as a classic alpine spectacle. The frame is handcrafted from 100% beta titanium and built with perforated eye shields, a leather centerpiece secured by a beveled snap, interchangeable temple options, and a detachable nylon eyewear strap with adjustable leather clasps.
This is the frame that ties most directly to mountaineering. The circular lenses, the side shields, and the leather bridge detail all point back to older alpine eyewear, but the finish is much cleaner than a straight reproduction.
Glacier comes in four colorways, Gold, Silver, Black, and Brick. Even across those finishes, the frame keeps the same mood. The shape does not soften. The hardware stays visible. It is the more distinct frame of the collection, and that is part of the appeal.
A Collector’s Release from The Start
JMM usually understands that collectible eyewear is not only about the frame itself. Rocky Mountain Featherbed follows that same line of thinking. Each pair arrives in a green monograph-style collector’s box with gold details, along with a custom leather case, a collectible microfiber cleaning cloth, and a letterpress authenticity card.
The frames already carry a strong visual identity, so the packaging does not need to compensate for anything. It just pushes the story further and gives the collection a finished feel.
